Some might say that they don't care about their image, and that they will act themselves no matter what the circumstance. They need not and will not put on a facade for anyone. But that is essentially saying that the image that they present to others is that they are 'true' and 'genuine'. It is nonetheless an image that the person is trying to convey, its just that 'not putting up a facade' is among the traits that he or she feels are important.
As caring about your image is natural, I do not believe that caring too much about your image, in its literal interpretation, is the negative trait that society has lead us to believe it is. Rather, what society means by 'caring too much' is the conveyance in your image that you care about your image. But since we all care about our image, does that imply that those who maintain the 'true' and 'genuine' image, are the ones that are not being true and genuine?
